Class 5 are a mixed Year 5/6 class and we place a huge emphasis on engaging the children through a vibrant, creative and topic based curriculum. In addition to this, the Year 6 children also focus on thorough preparation for the end of Key Stage SATs and transition to secondary school. We are based in our lovely mobile classroom, which gives us plenty of space to learn and develop a growing sense of independence, and a feeling of moving towards the next phase of our learning journey.
Learning in Class 5 is challenging and rewarding and the children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing and extending their own learning through a variety of experiences and tasks. This is coupled with rigorous embedding and developing core skills across the Maths, English and Science curricula in order to ensure the children beging secondary school as confident and resilient learners.
In addition to our life in the classroom, we also widen our experiences through trips to a variety of places including other schools, concerts, local sites including forest schools, museums and our bi-annual residential trip to Hollowford in the Peak District. We make the most of our local environment and make sure that we include outdoor learning in our curriculum in order to enthuse and engage even the most active learner.
Emphasis is placed on the children's growing maturity and they are encouraged to take on a range of leadership roles within the school, including House Captains, Sports Leaders and other key positions of responsibility. The children also represent the school as part of the wider community in a variety of ways, including sporting and musical events.
